Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 30, 2026 · Last updated: August 28, 2026
Patika ("we", "us", "our") operates the Patika mobile application and website (the "Service"), a reading app that helps children practice English at their own level. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and how it's protected — especially because Patika is designed to be used by children under a parent or guardian's account.
01Who Creates the Account
Patika accounts are created by a parent or guardian, not by the child. The parent registers with their own email address and password, then creates one or more child profiles within that account. A child never signs up directly or provides their own contact information.
02Information We Collect
- Parent account information: email address and password (stored securely, never in plain text) used to sign in.
- Child profile information: the name and CEFR reading level (A1–B2) the parent enters for their child.
- Reading progress data: which stories have been read or completed, quiz results, vocabulary learned, reading streaks, XP/levels, and badges earned within the app — all tied to the child profile, used only to track the child's own progress.
- Microphone (optional): the app's "Speak" practice screen can use the device microphone so a child can hear their own pronunciation back. These recordings are processed entirely on the device and are never uploaded, transmitted, or stored on our servers — they exist only in the app's memory during that session and disappear when the page or recording is closed.
- Advertising technical data: Patika is free and supported by ads. Our ad provider (Google AdMob) automatically receives limited technical data needed to deliver an ad — such as device type, approximate (non-precise) location derived from IP address, and app activity signals — but never anything used to build a personal advertising profile of a child. See Section 5.
We do not collect the child's precise (GPS) location, contacts, or photos. We do not require or ask children to provide any personal information themselves.
03How We Use Information
- To create and maintain the parent's account and their child's reading profile.
- To save and display reading progress so a child can pick up where they left off.
- To match stories to the child's chosen reading level.
- To display non-personalized advertising that keeps the app free (see Section 5).
- To respond to support requests from the parent.
We do not build advertising profiles of children or parents, and we do not use reading progress, quiz results, or any in-app activity to target ads.
04Children's Privacy
Patika is built to be used by children only under a parent or guardian's supervision and account. In line with children's privacy laws (such as COPPA in the United States and GDPR-K in the EU/UK):
- We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child beyond the profile information a parent enters on their behalf.
- We do not show behavioral or targeted advertising to children — only non-personalized, contextual ads (see Section 5).
- We do not sell or rent children's personal information to anyone, for any purpose.
- A parent can review, correct, or delete their child's information at any time (see Section 8).
05Advertising
Patika is free to use. To support that, the app shows ads through Google AdMob: a banner at the bottom of the screen while reading, and occasionally a full-screen ad when a child finishes a book and returns to the shelf.
- We configure AdMob to treat every user as a child, which turns off personalized/behavioral advertising and interest-based tracking for the entire app — ads are chosen contextually, not based on a profile built from your family's activity.
- AdMob may still process standard, non-personal technical signals (like device type and general region) required to serve and measure any ad, under Google's own privacy policy and their Families ad program requirements.
- Ads never appear inside a story page itself — only on the shelf/banner areas and between finishing one book and starting the next.
06Where Information Is Stored
Account and progress data is stored using Supabase, a third-party database and authentication provider that acts as our data processor. Supabase does not use this data for its own purposes. Data is protected with row-level security rules so that a parent can only ever access their own children's records — not any other family's data. All data is transmitted between the app and our servers over encrypted (HTTPS) connections.
07Sharing of Information
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share reading activity, quiz results, or any child profile data with advertisers or data brokers. We only share information with the service providers necessary to run the Service: Supabase (hosting and authentication) and Google AdMob (displaying non-personalized ads, as described in Section 5) — each under agreements that limit their use of the data to providing that service to us.
08Parental Rights & Data Deletion
As a parent, you can at any time:
- Review the information stored about your child by contacting us.
- Request a correction to your child's name or reading level.
- Request permanent deletion of your account and all associated child profiles and progress data.
To make any of these requests, email us at consumeobey54@gmail.com. We will act on deletion requests within a reasonable time and confirm once complete.
09Data Retention
We retain account and progress data for as long as the account remains active, so a child's reading history isn't lost between sessions. If an account is deleted — by request, or after 24 months of inactivity — the associated data is permanently removed from our active systems.
10App Permissions
- Internet access: required to sign in, sync reading progress, and load ads.
- Microphone: only requested when a child opens the optional "Speak" pronunciation practice screen, and only used on-device as described in Section 2. The app works fully without granting this permission — a child simply won't be able to hear their own recorded voice played back.
11Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify parents through the app or by email.
